SC Stay Plus is pausing operations and is no longer accepting new applications. Funding from the US Treasury has been fully dispersed to applicants, and it is unknown at this time if any additional funding will be received.
During this pause:

  • Review of all open applications will be paused.
    • Applications will be left at their most recent review status as of March 15, 2023.
    • If more funds become available and the program is able to re-start operations and review applications, applicants will be notified by email or phone call if their application enters review.
  • The call center will have limited capacity.
  • The expression of interest waitlist will remain open.

SC Housing Stay Plus Program will close to new applications December 16, 2022

SC Stay Plus has provided approximately 90,000 South Carolinians with more than $267 million in rent and utility assistance across the 39 counties the program serves. Due to the program’s success, we must stop accepting new applications at 11:59 p.m. on December 16, 2022. 


SC Stay Plus is South Carolina’s federally-funded emergency rental program. The intent of this temporary initiative was to provide short-term relief to eligible renters in 39 SC counties experiencing financial hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

SC Stay Plus has provided approximately 90,000 South Carolinians with more than $267 million in rental and utility assistance. Due to the Program’s success, SC Stay Plus will begin to wind down in South Carolina, as it is doing in many other states, and must stop accepting new applications at 11:59 p.m. on Dec.16, 2022.

SC Stay Plus will continue to review all current applications to determine if they qualify for assistance, for as long as funds are available. Applications submitted by the Dec. 16 deadline will also be reviewed to determine if they qualify for assistance, for as long as funds are available.
